In Chapter 2 it states, “…students should learn prerequisite skills as they see the need for them in a group or individual project. However, experienced teachers know that even motivated students do not always learn skills as expected”. I have felt many times that many of my students are not motivated in their learning. I get frustrated at times because I feel like I am teaching skills that the students should have learned in kindergarten. Then I have to make myself stop and remember that not all students learn at the same pace.
But would technology help them to become more motivated and not fall behind? I know that pretty much the majority of the students in my class have computers, laptops, and all sorts of video and computer games. Students like things that are entertaining and fast paced because that is what they are used to. The textbook mentions the use of tutorial software materials as a good way to review for students who do not understand a certain skill that was taught. It also can be used as a means to teach students who were absent in a fast pace means. I think this would be very helpful for teachers who are always pressed for time. It would be entertaining for the students and free up time for the teachers. There are many programs on the internet that are educational and fun for the students. I use them in my room during my center time and the students are always so excited about getting to that particular station. This just goes to show that technology can be incorporated successfully in the classroom and be entertaining at the same time.

A Change Will Do You Good
The Progress of Technology
Technology has come a long way in recent years. I remember when I was in elementary school; the only chance we got to use a computer was in the computer lab once a week. That was back when the first apple computers came out and we used floppy disks to play games such as Number Munchers. The computers became more advanced as I progressed in school. Teachers would get excited over having their own personal computer for use in the classroom. By the time that I had reached high school in the mid 1990’s, computers we very common in the classrooms and students had more access to them. These days’ students are way more technology savvy than I was at their age. The students in my classroom are submersed in such a technology oriented world that at times I feel that they take it for granted.
As a teacher feel that much can be learned from using a computer, but teachers are still a valuable commodity. I agree with the statement in Chapter 1 that states “that teachers will always be more important than technology”. I feel that students need someone that will guide them in their learning and take advantage of all that technology has to offer. Technology continues to advance constantly and teachers need to try and stay up to date on the information available. I know that not everyone likes change, but in the fast pace world we live in, it is pretty much inevitable.

New to me
I am definitely not used to maintaining my own personal blog. I am the type of person that likes things to be routine. This doesn't mean that I am not open to change and spur of the moment things....I just like to know what to do so I can make a list. This class is going to be different for me because I do not have certain things to do each week except maintain my blog as of now. Hopefully I will not freak out and become okay with my course load.
I start my new class tomorrow and I am a little nervous about it. I had to pick up a class at the last minute for financial aid reasons--and I missed the first class. I have never had to do that and do not like the feeling of being unprepared. Luckily another teacher I work with is in the class and has filled me in. Hopefully it will go well.

Complicated
So I like to consider myself pretty computer and technology savvy, but after my first class of EDT 630, my confidence has definitely taken a hit. I think it was a matter of things moving very fastly and trying to listen and wanting to play around at the same time. I hope that I will get a better understanding of how to manage all of the new technology that I have acquired.
