A Change Will Do You Good

The Progress of Technology

Technology has come a long way in recent years. I remember when I was in elementary school; the only chance we got to use a computer was in the computer lab once a week. That was back when the first apple computers came out and we used floppy disks to play games such as Number Munchers. The computers became more advanced as I progressed in school. Teachers would get excited over having their own personal computer for use in the classroom. By the time that I had reached high school in the mid 1990’s, computers we very common in the classrooms and students had more access to them. These days’ students are way more technology savvy than I was at their age. The students in my classroom are submersed in such a technology oriented world that at times I feel that they take it for granted.
As a teacher feel that much can be learned from using a computer, but teachers are still a valuable commodity. I agree with the statement in Chapter 1 that states “that teachers will always be more important than technology”. I feel that students need someone that will guide them in their learning and take advantage of all that technology has to offer. Technology continues to advance constantly and teachers need to try and stay up to date on the information available. I know that not everyone likes change, but in the fast pace world we live in, it is pretty much inevitable.

I agree with you that teachers will always be more important than technology when it comes to kids learning. However, it is important to use technology with your lessons whenever possible for a more creative way for kids to learn. I think it's really funny that you mentioned Number Crunchers. I absolutely loved that game and I had completely forgotten about it. I honestly think that's one of the games that helped me enjoy Math more!
