Electronic Grade books
As educators we have such a wide range of technology available to us. One of the things that stood out to me in Chapter 5 was the use of electronic grade books. At my school, we use a program called STI. This allows us to enter in our grades and the program will automatically average them. It is such a nicer way to average grades than the traditional way of using a calculator. You are able to enter in student names and their assignments with the correct weighting information. As a person who strongly dislikes spending a lot of time averaging grades, this would be extremely useful for me. The only thing that is a drawback for me is that our school to requires us to keep a physical grade book. We have to turn it in at the end of the year as part of our year end checkout. So there are definitely pluses of using an electronic grade book to save you time and energy, but the drawback is doing double the work by keeping a physical grade book. Another drawback is that I am only able to access my electronic grade book at school. I do a lot of my grades at home and this would pose a problem for me. Even though an electronic grade book sounds like a great idea, I think I am going to stick to the old fashioned handwritten grade book for now.
